How Do I Apply to High School?

In grade 8 you will complete a Catholic Secondary School Application Form. This form will be given to you in early November.

• The form will be handed out by your classroom teacher.
• You will fill this form out with your parents and teachers help.
• You will hand the form back to your teacher.
• The teacher will send the form to the board.

The Admissions and Placement department at the Toronto Catholic District School Board will put your information into a computer.

• A list of all applicants, called the “Nominal Roll”, is created.
• This nominal roll is sent to all high school principals.

If you are accepted by your school of choice, an acceptance letter will be sent to you at your elementary school by the middle of February. You are accepted to your school of choice based on the following criteria:

• If the program you want is available. Example: French, French Immersion.
• If you have a brother or a sister attending and returning in September to the high school you applied to.
• If the high school you applied to is close to your elementary school.

When you receive your acceptance from a high school you will:

• Fill out an option sheet.
• Hand in and pay for your activity fee.
• Attend a registration night.

You now have three choices:

1. You can accept the redirect to the new school.
2. You can reject the redirect and go on a “Priority 1”, waiting list for the first school you chose. If you choose to reject the redirection you may not have a Toronto Catholic District School Board placement by the 1st day of school.
3. You accept the redirect at the new school and also ask to be placed on the “Priority 2” waiting list until of your high school of choice the end of May.
